Los Angeles native Beth Hart the blues-influenced rock singer and street performer who was first noticed in 1995 with Immortal and gained attention for her unpretentious, open-minded nature, gifted musicianship, emotion-filled live performances, and a voice compared to that of Janis Joplin. Chuck Taylor, Billboard's October 2nd, 1999 issue stated that Hart is "the epitome of natural woman," and that she is "bawdy and funny, chatty with her choices of spiced languages, and free-wheeling." But that's nothing to her presence on stage. The tall, lean singer/songwriter moves and screams songs in a band with Mick Jagger . At other times, she'll take her place at the piano or centerstage with her legs crossed over the chairs, and her voice so delicate and painfulthat it's hard to tell whether she's going cry or if you'll. "Drawing emotions like this since the time she performed on stage to compete in amateur contests as an teen, Hart nonetheless experienced misgivings about the music business as her career started to grow. Hart quit her band after she had a disappointing tour around the world. Hart then spent nearly four years contemplating her feelings and finding solutions to issues through music writing. In 1999, Hart came back to her professional career with the critically highly acclaimed Screamin' for My Supper. The album saw Hart's songwriting abilities develop with vulnerable and honest songs that address life's challenges.
